Making quick, but effective homemade trapping methods.
Until you are able to get rid of them totally, you may want to also try quick and effective homemade trapping methods. One method you may want to try is coat-ing the legs of your furniture with petroleum jelly or some comparable petroleumjelly substance. This will catch some of the creepy crawlers as their bodies will stick to the petroleum and keep them from reaching your bed level while you aresleeping. This may allow you to get a good night’s rest. If you don’t have any petroleum, you may want to visit your local hardware and find some double-sided tape(such as carpet tape) to put around the legs of your furniture. You can also placethis inside your bed frame that cradles your box spring. It should be somethingthat is extremely sticky to the touch so that it will be effective in trapping their bodies. You can also make traps yourself by pouring mineral oil in a small containerand placing the foot of each bed in each container. A less messy method would beto coat four small containers with petroleum jelly in place of the mineral oil, and itwill be just as effective.
There are also glue boards which can be found in the pest control section ofyour favorite retailer. These are small individually wrapped boards with an extremely sticky glue substance that are used to trap bugs, and small rodents, i.e.mice. Before peeling the wax paper from the board, cut one of the boards into four quarter sections. After removing the wax paper, these can now be placed undereach of the four legs of chairs, sofas or loveseats. There are also simple do-it-yourself, homemade traps that can be used alongwith homemade materials that mimic carbon dioxide to attract and trap bed bugs.(For more information on this subject, do a simple online search using suchkeywords as: homemade, bed bug, traps, carbon dioxide etc.)
When in doubt, throw it out.
If you have any furniture that you have definitely found the actual eggs in, youmay want to consider the possibility of discarding it. The decision however will ulti-mately rest with you. This will be your choice and only you can determine this
need. Just bear in mind, that the eggs are a fresh generation just waiting to hatch and eat you alive! Sounds like a line from a horror film, does it not? If a serious infestation is located, do not hesitate to seek professional help.
You may attempt to battle these creatures yourself to save money. But, if you do not know how to effectively locate, contain and eliminate them, you can actually incur considerable expense at a later date. If you seek professional help, you may actually need more than one treatment to get the current adult generation, the nymphs that have already hatched, and the eggs that are soon to hatch.
If you decide to move.
If by chance you decide to move from the infested location, by all means, take precautions to leave the bed bugs behind. You will want to take careful precautions to go through literally everything you own searching for any remote signs of bed bugs, nymphs or the unhatched eggs.
Once again, you will want to wash all of your clothing in hot water, and dry at a high level of heat. Bag and seal them securely and immediately. Steam all of your furniture to the best of your ability, making sure to get deep into each crevice and seam. Make sure that you steam the underside of the furniture as well. After this is done, make sure that you do not leave the furni- ture or clothing that you have just processed in the infested zone. The worst case scenario that you want to experience, is that you go through this whole elaborate process to move, only to find that your squatting, non-rent-paying bed bug friends have come along for the ride!
